The artist I will be writing about today is @Gia_Artwork on Instagram. I attached images of my favorite pieces that I found while scrolling through her Instagram and website (https://www.giaartwork.com/).

Gia primarily works with gouache. The duck piece is titled "Ducks" and is a 5.5"x4.75" image on a 6.75"x6" paper. It sold for $195. I respond particularly to the movement in the water and way she captures lighting. I like the reflection of the left duck's head in the water, along with how you can tell where his body is submerged under water. The vibrant orange of the beaks pairs nice with the blue tones in the ducks and water. Overall form and lighting are captured very well.

The grape piece is a 6"x6" gouache and sold for $109. It is titled "Grapes". Again, I think she did an outstanding job capturing the lighting. The vibrancy of the top grapes makes them appear illuminated and glowing. I also appreciate the abstract background, along with the choice to do a two toned surface for where the grapes are rested atop. I liked the pops of color in the background and surface, particularly the blues and reds in the background, and the blues, magentas, and hot pinks of the shadow that the grapes are casting.

The last piece I will be reacting to is titled "Eggs and Bacons". It is an 8"x8" gouache. I love how the eggs and bacon are uncooked. I have never seen uncooked eggs and bacon on a plate like this, and I bet most people haven't. This peculiarity is intriguing. In terms of colors, I really like the vibrant red in the bacon and how there are streaks of this same red blended into the magenta background. Gia did a great job of rendering the fluidity of the raw egg whites as well.

The most expensive original paintings on her website are priced at $350. One is a 9"x12" gouache and the other is an 8"x6" gouache. They are not my favorite pieces of hers, but my guess is they are probably priced highest due to time spent, because they both feature reflective metal elements. I couldn't find much information about Gia, because I think she likes her identity being private. She is based in California though, where she makes work to sell and also works as an art instructor. She graduated from ACCD. She has 49,000 followers on Instagram, and her success definitely displays the usefulness of social media in building a career in art. She sells a lot of fairly small paintings for a couple hundred bucks a pop so.
